WHAT IS THE ZAESS PROJECT

LIFE ZAESS will demonstrate an innovative zinc-air energy storage technology that can address the challenges of integrating intermittent renewable energy. This innovative zinc-air flow battery combines the advantages of metal-air batteries and flow batteries.

OVERALL OBJECTIVES

DEMO SCALE

To demonstrate the scalability of a novel rechargeable zinc-air battery technology through the construction of a demo scale pilot plant.

PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

To gather technical, economic and environmental performance indicators to evaluate the overall performance of the technology.

ASSESS THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

To assess the environmental impact associated to the construction and operation of this type of energy storage facilities.

LEGAL AND REGULATORY FRAMEWORK

To propose a legal and regulatory framework for the deployment of large scale energy storage facilities in order to overcome the barriers for future renewable energy market penetration.

DISSEMINATE THE BENEFITS

To disseminate the benefits of renewable energy storage for the reduction of CO2 emissions.
